New Display Equipment Installed At TMC
Sept. 9, 2008
LAS VEGAS - The new LED (light emitting diodes) and scoreboard equipment for the Thomas & Mack Center that was included in the partnership between UNLV Athletics/Special Events and International Sports Properties, Inc. (ISP Sports), has been delivered and installed, UNLV Athletics Director Mike Hamrick announced Tuesday.
The Thomas & Mack Center's upgraded equipment, which is part of the $3.1 million in total upgrades for UNLV Athletics' facilities, was entirely paid for through the deal with ISP Sports, which owns the multi-media rights, corporate sales and sponsorship development for athletics, special events and entertainment.
The equipment installed over the last month at the Thomas & Mack Center includes a new center-hung scoreboard and video display, partial ring beam displays and a new scorer's table display.
The new equipment will greatly enhance the fan experience and presentation during events at the facility as well as increase visibility of UNLV's sponsors and advertisers.
"This equipment will allow us to enhance and create new interactive opportunities for our fans, event producers and corporate clients at every event the Thomas & Mack Center hosts," Hamrick said. "Our basketball program is again receiving national recognition and exciting the community and we have always had world-renown special events. These equipment upgrades will add to the experience of our spectators and improve our events."
The Thomas & Mack Center is celebrating its 25th anniversary this season and is the No. 2-grossing facility in the world.
The center-hung video scoring display features four LED wide-screen video boards (8-feet high by 13-feet, 4-inches wide). The 10 mm pixel pitch of each board will provide an amazing quality of viewing for spectators. Additionally, as part of the center-hung unit, there are four scoring/advertising displays (4-feet, 2-inches high by 16-feet, 8-inches wide with a 20 mm pixel pitch) and a Pro-Star advertising ring (2-feet, 1-inch high by 49-feet, 11-inches wide, also with a 20 mm pixel pitch).
There is also a new partial ring beam (balcony fascia) display, which features four indoor Pro-Ad advertising displays that span 80 percent of the balcony's rim. Each section is 3-feet high by 88-feet, 10-inches long that features LED displays with a 23 mm pixel pitch. Two custom scoreboards have also been installed behind each basket on the balcony's rim that feature fixed digital scoring with complete player stats (points, rebounds and fouls) and backlit, tri-vision ad panels for sponsors and advertisers.
Other equipment included is a 50-foot LED scorer's table with a 10 mm pixel pitch, new shot clocks for the backboards, which include 13-inch high digits for shot clock time and 7-inch digits for game time. Six wall-mounted locker room clocks displaying the game time have also been installed.
A new outdoor marquee LED billboard on the corner of Tropicana and Swenson is currently being installed and will replace the equipment that has been previously located there. A new baseball scoreboard at Wilson Stadium is also scheduled for installation this fall.
