Attending members of the media watched videos from this year's "The Place To BE" promotional campaign, ran through drills conducted by the UNLV coaching staff and conducted interviews with head coach Lon Kruger and players afterwards.
UNLV seniors Darris Santee and Steve Jones, and junior Derrick Jasper modeled the redesigned uniforms, which have a throwback feel to them taken mainly from the uniforms worn by the 1990 National Championship team. The uniforms use Nike's Elite-Fit pattern, with the front of the uniform constructed of a lightweight sphere fabric, while the back is an ultra-lightweight mini mesh, engineered to help the players stay cool along their spine, which is where they traditionally heat up the most.
"The uniforms look great," Jasper said. "I like how the design mixes part of the past with the present to make a cool combination. I also really like the feel of the new material and how the uniform fits."
UNLV Runnin' Rebel FirstLook 2009, the first official practice of the season, is this Friday night at 9 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center. Doors open at 8:15 p.m., and the event is free and open to the public.
