LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's basketball program received signed national letters of intent from DeShawn Mitchell and Darris Santee on Wednesday - the first day of the early signing period - to enroll at UNLV next fall and play for the Runnin' Rebels starting with the 2008-09 season, head coach Lon Kruger announced.

Mitchell, a 6-foot-5-inch, 205-pound forward is from Monmouth Academy in Howell, N.J. He attended Oak Hill Academy in Virginia the past two years and averaged 24 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots last season. He will be a freshman when he enrolls at UNLV next year.

"DeShawn is an extremely good athlete with a great deal of flexibility in his ability to score both inside and out," said Kruger. "He has made tremendous progress in the last year and we expect him to continue improving all aspects of his game."

Santee, a 6-foot-8-inch, 225-pound forward from Midland (Texas) College, averaged 8.5 points and four rebounds per game last season for his team, which finished the year 29-8 and won the NJCAA national championship.

Santee, who will enroll at UNLV as a junior, attended Marshall High School near Houston.

"Darris is a young athlete that we have recruited for the last three years," Kruger said. "We know he will bring great integrity and commitment and will give us added athletic ability on the interior."
