LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Athletics Department is saying thank you this holiday season to those who support the education of the youth in Southern Nevada by offering all Clark County School District (CCSD) employees two free balcony-level tickets to the UNLV men's basketball Duel in the Desert tournament, which will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center, Dec. 28-30.

"The professionals who work with youth on a daily basis are such a critical part of any community's quality of life," said UNLV men's basketball coach Lon Kruger. "This is a small gesture to simply say `thank you' to those who serve us in our community. We want them to know what they do is appreciated."

Kruger has a strong working relationship with the CCSD. He is an active member of the board of the CCSD's School-Community Partnership Program and also serves as its spokesperson. The Partnership Program is designed to help local businesses and professionals engage with the district and become an active part of the educational process.

"The support of the UNLV Athletics Department means a great deal to us," said Dr. Walt Ruffles, superintendent of the Clark County School District. "Our employees are such a valuable part of this community and they are dedicated to serving the public. A gesture like this helps to reaffirm to our team the appreciation others in our community have for them."

UNLV Athletics Director Mike Hamrick said the relationship is a natural fit. "UNLV Athletics is dedicated to supporting education in Southern Nevada," he said. "We are extremely proud of the standards we have set academically within our department and we feel we have a responsibility to help promote education to the youth throughout our community."

CCSD employees may pick up tickets to any or all three of the Runnin' Rebel games by showing their CCSD or school ID at the Thomas & Mack Center ticket office. Employees must show their CCSD or school ID when picking up tickets.

Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The tickets may be picked up in advance at the Thomas & Mack Center ticket office between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. now through the tournament (the ticket office will be closed Dec. 24 and 25).
