Roscoe Smith Named Mountain West Player Of The Week|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV junior Roscoe Smithhas been named the Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games through Sunday, Dec. 22, the league announced Monday. This is the first MW weekly accolade for Smith and also the Runnin' Rebels' first of the season.
Smith, 6-8 forward from Baltimore, Md., led the Runnin' Rebels to a perfect 3-0 mark last week, averaging a double-double, while nearly shooting 70 percent from the floor. He turned in averages of 14.3 ppg and 10.7 rpg in 28.7 minutes per contest, while making 69.2 percent of his shots from the field (18-of-26) and 87.5 percent of his free throws (7-of-8). Thirteen of his 32 rebounds during the week came on the offensive glass. The Runnin' Rebels won their three games by an average of 24.0 ppg.
Smith started off the week by recording a double-double of 13 points with a game-high 12 rebounds in an 81-62 win over Radford at the Thomas & Mack Center to begin play in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic. He shot 6-of-10 from the field, while grabbing a career-high-tying eight offensive rebounds. He also blocked two shots in 28 minutes of action.
Two days later against Sacred Heart at the Thomas & Mack Center, Smith again had a double-double with a game-high-tying 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds in UNLV's 32-point win. He shot 6-of-9 from the field in 26 minutes on the floor.
In the final game of the week on Sunday, Smith helped the Runnin' Rebels earn a spot in the CTLVC Championship Game with their 92-71 win over Santa Clara at the Orleans Arena. Smith scored 15 points against the Broncos, while recording seven rebounds. He shot 6-of-7 from the field and made all three of his free-throw attempts in 32 minutes of action.
