UNLV: The former high-energy UNLV standout linebacker John Lotulelei (last name is pronounced "low-2-LAY-LAY")was a top performer in two different events at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis ... Lotulelei ranked second among 16 linebackers in the 3-cone drill with a time of 6.91 seconds and fourth out of 20 in the vertical jump at 35.5 inches ... He also was sixth out of 26 in the bench press with 25 reps of 225 pounds ... The native of Kihei, Hawaii, and graduate of Baldwin High School and transfer from Merced College, was the first Rebel player to receive an invite to the annual event since 2010 ... Named First Team All-Mountain West and UNLV Defensive Most Valuable Player for 2012.
2012: A member of the official 2012 Butkus Award Watch List ... Earned 2012 First Team All-Mountain West honors after starting all 13 games at linebacker ... A team captain who finished third in the Mountain West and tied for 35th in the nation with 9.2 tackles per game as a senior ... The 120 tackles represented the 10th-highest total in UNLV single-season history ... Turned in a career-high 19 total tackles vs. Nevada, Reno and grabbed his first interception vs. Washington State ... Also named the 2012 winner of the UNLV Bill "Wildcat" Morris Most Inspirational Award ... Selected to represent the Rebel defense at the annual Mountain West Media Days event in Las Vegas in July ... Earned Preseason Second Team All-Mountain West from Lindy's.
2011: Earned his first letter as a Rebel by playing in all 12 games, including taking over as a starter late in the year ... Joined the team in time for fall preseason camp ... Worked his way onto the depth chart after a solid camp effort ... Ranked third on the team with 60 total tackles, including 3 TFL ... Tied for the team high in tackles with 13 vs. No. 5 Boise State.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Spent two seasons with Merced (CA) College ... In 2010, he notched a team-high 84 total tackles, including 12 tackles for loss, five sacks, two pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery ... Totaled a team season-high 12 tackles against De Anza and was an All-Golden Gate Conference selection following his sophomore season.
