REBEL GAME NOTES
-UNLV's 23-16 win over Utah State broke a string of 15 consecutive road losses dating back to the 2004 season. It was the first road win for the Rebels since a 24-20 victory on Oct. 8, 2004 at BYU.
-The 23-16 victory was the first road victory in UNLV head coach Mike Sanford's career.
-Redshirt Travis Dixon became just the second freshman quarterback in UNLV history to start a season-opening game under center. Jon Denton was the other when he faced Tennessee in the 1996 lid-lifter.
-Dixon became the first UNLV QB to rush for 100 yards in a game since Shane Steichen got 104 on 17 carries vs. Idaho on Sept. 10, 2005.
-Senior Brian Pacheco's first career punt attempt for the Rebels went 71 yards for a touchback in the first quarter.
-UNLV opened the scoring with a 48-yard field goal by Sergio Aguayo in the first quarter. Aguayo, who is recovering from knee surgery on his kicking leg, also nailed 30-yard and 22-yard attempts in the third quarter. He now is 34-50 in his career, which puts him in a tie for fourth place on the school's career field-goal list. It marked the second time in the Groza Award candidate's career that he kicked at least three field goals in one game. He first did it at Utah on Oct. 28, 2006.
-Sophomore Rebel backer Starr Fuimaono recorded his first career sack in the first quarter for a loss of 10.
-WR Casey Flair's 21-yard gain on the first play from scrimmage in the second half meant the junior has now caught at least one pass in every game of his 24-game career. It was also the 100th catch of his career.
