ON KEEPING THE MOMEMTUM FOLLOWING THE ARIZONA STATE WIN
What happens after a win like that is people start telling players how good they are and they start believing them and players forget how they got there. We have to counter that. We have to understand how we got here and how we won that game.

There are a lot of little things that go into winning and that is one of the biggest things in getting this program to where I am trying to get it.

ON THE PLAY OF Phillip Payne AT ASU AND OVERALL ON THE START TO HIS SEASON
He obviously is a very special player who is a great competitor. He has a great knack of going to get the ball at the highest point or to be in a position where the defender can't get to the ball.

He has become a better route runner and he works every day on becoming a great receiver. He has improved since the season started and the exciting thing is he has a lot more improvement in him. His upside is tremendous.

ON QB Omar Clayton NOT THROWING AN INTERCEPTION THIS SEASON AND THE TEAM NOT HAVING COMMITTED A TURNOVER
It something that we have been coaching and it is a process. He had five (turnovers) in one game when he was a freshman. It is something that has become very important to him and I think our players also understand that. It is something that we have to continue to do.

As a coach, you look at things and want to be perfect. To me, I want to have no turnovers. I love looking at where we are, but at the same time, the reality is that it is not that normal (to have none after three games).

ON HOW THE WIN OVER ARIZONA STATE WILL HELP RECRUITING
I think it will be very positive. We have started our recruiting process already and it is always a positive thing, both with local kids in Las Vegas and also with kids in Arizona.

ON PLAYING RIVALRY GAMES IN THE MIDDLE OF SEASON INSTEAD OF AT THE END
I can't speak for them (Iowa State), but last year's close loss to Nevada, Reno was a very difficult thing for us. Most of the time the rivalry game at most of the other places I have coached at were at the end of the year. I do think that rivalry games during the season, when you are in two different conferences like Iowa and Iowa State, definitely have an impact on the rest of the season. I can't say if it is the next game, but it has an impact.

ON THE CLOSE GAME WITH IOWA STATE TWO SEASONS AGO IN AMES
The biggest thing for guys that were here for that game remember, is that we played them at their place and that we legitimately had a chance to win. I think that would be a big confidence builder for us going into this game. It is a big challenge for us.

OVERALL ON IOWA STATE
They are playing two quarterbacks and they both are really athletic. They have a really good running back, Alexander Robinson, and two really good receivers in R.J. Sumrall and Houston Jones.

The biggest thing about them is they are 2-1 and statistically it was a really close game with Iowa. They are a physical, very strong football team from a great conference. I would say the two best conferences right now are the SEC and the Big 12.

Coach Chizik has a great reputation as a defensive coordinator and although I have never coached with him or against him, I know him through the profession and he is very highly respected.
