UNLV vs. Colorado State Post-Game Quotes
UNLV HEAD COACH Mike Sanford
OVERALL ON THE GAME:
"I thought Colorado State did an excellent job and they played very well. The bottom line of that game is we had four turnovers in the first half of the game and you can't win that way. I think Omar Clayton, as the game played out, did some really good things. But in the first half he had some turnovers."
"We have to be able to stop the run better than that. We gave up big plays, which you can't do."
ON THE WIND, THAT WAS SUSTAINED AT 25-35 MPH, WITH GUSTS TO 55:
"A big thing in the first half that was an almost unbelievable, comical situation was the wind. The one kickoff, I have never seen that that in my coaching career. The ball went behind the kicking team."
ON THE PLAY OF FRESHMAN QUARTERBACK Omar Clayton:
"He's a great athlete. He is going to make a lot of plays but he is a true freshman, and he made true freshman mistakes tonight. He feels really bad. When you make those kinds of mistakes, though, it helps you avoid making them later."
ON NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP THE RUN:
"We have got to stop them and get them off the field. Drives are going too long. Defense is about being physical and giving a great effort. We have to be able to stop the run."
"The one thing I can see is that we are not tackling as good as we can tackle. The back is moving forward."
UNLV QB Omar Clayton
ON HIS FIRST CAREER START:
"We lost so there were no positives for me. There are no positives unless you win the game. I wouldn't say I had jitters, just had a lot more responsibility this game."
ON HIS FIVE TURNOVERS:
"I made some bad decisions but all turnovers are fixable. I'm sure ball protection will be a priority with me this week in practice."
ON THE WIND:
"It was gusty but we weren't the only team out there playing in the wind tonight."
