LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's tennis team will begin the season ranked 50th in the nation as the year's first ITA College Tennis Rankings were released.

The Lady Rebels finished last season ranked 49th after posting a 20-8 overall record that included a Mountain West Tournament Championship and trip to the NCAAs.

Individually, senior Lucia Batta improved 12 spots from the September rankings to a career-high No. 29 in the nation after an 11-2 fall effort that included her second career ITA Mountain Region Singles title.

Regionally, Batta is No. 1 while fellow-senior Aleksandra Josifoska is No. 3. Also, Batta and Josifoska make up the No. 2 doubles team in the Mountain Region, which includes schools in Idaho, Utah, Montana, New Mexico, Wyoming, Nevada, and select programs from Colorado and Arizona.

After last season, Batta and Josifoska became the first women's duo to finish ranked in the national top 100 at the end of a season.

UNLV will return to action when it hosts the 12th Annual Freeman Memorial Tennis Championships Jan. 17-19 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Admission is free of charge.
