Rebel Tank To Texas|
Jan. 15, 2009
LAS VEGAS - Former UNLV running back Frank "The Tank" Summers has been announced as a participant in the third annual Texas vs. The Nation football all-star game.
Summers led the team in rushing yards each of his two seasons after transferring from Laney College, going for 928 yards in 2007 and 740 last fall despite getting injured after just two carries in the season finale. He also finished his Rebel career with a combined 20 career touchdowns rushing (14) and receiving (6).
Summers will suit up in jersey No. 34 for Team Texas, which will be coached by former Alabama head man Gene Stallings. Team Nation will be led by Florida Atlantic head coach Howard Schnellengberger.
The game will be played Jan. 31 at the Sun Bowl in El Paso. Kickoff is scheduled for noon PT and fans can watch the game live on CBS College Sports.
"While I'm not sure why I'm on the Texas team, they do list me as running back and fullback so add in special teams and I think I'll get some good looks from the pro scouts," Summers said from where he is training in Sarasota, Fla.
Summers will be the second Rebel to take part in the Texas vs. The Nation game as safety Jay Staggs played in the 2006 event.
