Jan. 15, 2014
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Former UNLV quarterback Caleb Herring is currently in Carson, Calif., preparing to play in this weekend's NFLPA Collegiate bowl.
Herring is one of 110 draft-eligible players who will face off Saturday at StubHub Center on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. PT and the game will be televised live on ESPN2.
Herring is one of four quarterbacks listed on the American Team roster along with Missouri's James Franklin, Ohio State's Kenny Guiton and Hawai'i's Sean Schroeder. The squad is being coached by Dennis Green while the National Team is headed by Dick Vermeil.
Herring, who is the first Rebel to take part in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl since defensive lineman B.J. Bell in 2011, just turned in one of the top passing seasons, statistically, in UNLV history. The native of Moreno Valley, Calif., and graduate of Citrus Hill High School, threw for 2,718 yards and 24 touchdowns against just five interceptions. He also ran for 346 net yards along with five more scores while helping lead the Rebels to their first bowl appearance in 13 years.
Herring's senior-season completion percentage of 63.2 broke Randall Cunningham's school record set in 1984. Also, Herring's final career completion percentage of 59.4 shattered the previous mark of 58.3 percent set by Omar Clayton from 2007-10.
