Hundreds Celebrate Fertitta Football Complex Groundbreaking|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - On a gorgeous, sunny winter afternoon in Southern Nevada, an overflow crowd made its way to Rebel Park Tuesday for the official groundbreaking of UNLV's Fertitta Football Complex.
Donors, dignitaries, student-athletes, staff, media members and other guests were on hand to celebrate the upcoming start of construction of the new home of Rebel Football. The 73,000-square-foot, two-level complex is being built on campus in the north end of the team's practice area and overlooks the Ernie Becker Sr. Football Fields at Bill "Wildcat" Morris Rebel Park.
"Today is yet another special day for the UNLV family," said Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois. "Today, our great city -- the home of our transcendent university -- adds another piece on our march towards excellence. This is more than a building. It's a symbol of faith. It's a symbol of support for our football program. On behalf of our entire athletics department, we thank the Fertitta Family for their faith, for their support and for their belief in us."
Slated to cost approximately $28.5 million, including financing from partner Nevada State Bank, the FFC will open in early 2019. More than $22 million has been raised and naming opportunities are still available.
"Coach Sanchez has discussed that getting this program to the next level was missing two key ingredients - one of those broke ground a few weeks ago in the new stadium and the second is why we are here today," said UNLV President Len Jessup. "A lot of hard work by a lot of people went in to getting us to this day, led by chief fundraiser (head coach) Tony Sanchez. Tony, well done! This IS a game-changer."
The Fertitta Football Complex will be the day-to-day home of the program and include an academic center, locker rooms, offices, meeting rooms, strength & conditioning center, media room, training table and nutrition bar, athletic training center and player lounge.
"It's so inspiring today that a completely community funded project like this can happen," said Sanchez. "This is a project based on belief by everyone here and thank you so much for it. This is about our student-athletes and investing in our young people.
"The entire Fertitta Family has been impactful in our community for so long. They continue to give, they continue to serve. I love them for it and I appreciate them for their friendship and generosity. This community is saying it's all-in and we are going to make the needed investment for this program to have the type of future it deserves. Las Vegas is a wonderful city with an unbelievable university and now with this building as the last piece, along with the new stadium, solidifies our opportunity - that's what it is right now, an opportunity -- to be great."
