13 Rebels Honored For Classroom Work

LAS VEGAS ( - A total of 13 UNLV football players earned spots on the 2011 Academic All-Mountain West team, the league announced Thursday.

The Rebels, who boasted double-digit honorees for the sixth consecutive season, ranked third in the conference this year for most players on the list behind only Boise State and Colorado State.

The UNLV group included three players who also earned the honor last year: Senior tight end Anthony Vidal (Huntington Beach, Calif.), sophomore linebacker Tim Hasson (Las Vegas) and sophomore defensive lineman Tyler Gaston (North Las Vegas).

Making their first appearance on the annual list this season was junior defensive lineman Trent Allmang-Wilder (Palm Springs, Calif.,), redshirt freshman quarterback/H-back Taylor Barnhill (Rhome, Texas), redshirt freshman offensive lineman Brett Boyko (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan), junior defensive back Kenny Brown (Palmdale, Calif.,), redshirt freshman linebacker Perry Cooper (The Woodlands, Texas), freshman wide receiver Devante Davis (Galena Park, Texas), senior defensive back Daniel Harper (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.,), junior punter/kicker Chase Lansford (Yorba Linda, Calif.), junior quarterback Sean Reilly (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Robert Waterman (Castaic, Calif.).



To be eligible for selection student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the school while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their team.
