Hauck Shuffles His Coaching Staff|
Feb. 7, 2012
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV football head coach Bobby Hauck on Tuesday announced changes in his staff that will result in the Rebels having a new coordinator on both sides of the ball.
Third-year assistant Brent Myers will now serve as offensive coordinator as well as continuing to coach tight ends while third-year assistant J.D. Williams will take over as defensive coordinator along with continuing his duties overseeing the secondary.
Rob Phenicie, who served as coordinator during Hauck's first two seasons, will continue his role as the team's quarterbacks coach. Kraig Paulson, who was defensive coordinator in 2010-11, will continue coaching the squad's outside linebackers and take over the position of Assistant Head Coach.
That means UNLV will enjoy the rare luxury of having the entire staff return when spring practice begins March 12.
"These changes will allow us to freshen our approach on both sides of the football," Hauck said. "They also mean we will have important continuity at all of our position groups as we progress into next season."
Before coming to UNLV, Myers spent the previous three seasons as offensive line coach and running game coordinator at Louisville. Before joining the Cardinals he spent three seasons in the same position at Arizona State. He was the offensive coordinator at Boise State for two seasons (1998-99) and before that was the O.C. at Northern Arizona from 1992-97.
Williams, a former first round NFL draft pick who played in four Super Bowls with the Buffalo Bills, was the Rebels' Assistant Head Coach after coming over from the University of Utah. He also coached the secondary at schools such as Washington, California and Fresno State.
