LAS VEGAS ( - Veteran defensive coach Tim Hundley has joined the UNLV football staff to oversee the Rebel linebackers, head coach Bobby Hauck announced Tuesday.

Hundley comes to Las Vegas after spending the last three seasons coaching the defensive secondary at UCLA. He replaces Robin Ross, who left UNLV last week after one season with the Rebels.

"I've known Tim Hundley for many years and not only has he been a valued colleague of mine but he is also widely known and respected in this profession," Hauck said. "He brings a wealth of experience to the defensive staff that will help us tremendously."

Before joining the Bruins, Hundley was assistant head coach/linebackers coach at SMU in 2008. He spent the previous four years (2004-07) as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at UTEP.

Hundley's coaching resume includes 16 years as a defensive coordinator on the FBS level - four at UTEP, five at Washington (1999-2003), six at Oregon State (1984-89) and one at Idaho (1979). He has coached in 13 bowl games, including two Rose Bowls, and groomed 21 players who moved on to the National Football League. In addition, He recruited six players who went on to garner All-America honors at the collegiate level - David Kilson (Nevada, Reno), Andre Gurode (Colorado), Michael Lewis (Colorado), Cade McNown (UCLA), Sam Merriman (Idaho) and Jamir Miller (UCLA).

Hundley began his coaching career in 1974 as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Western Oregon State. He went on to stints at Clackamas Community College, Idaho, UNR, Oregon State, UCLA, Colorado, Washington, UTEP, SMU and then back to UCLA.

Born May 1, 1951, in Portland, Ore., Hundley earned his bachelor's degree in education from Western Oregon State in 1974. He was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame after an All-America football career for the Wolves. He added a master's degree in education from Idaho in 1978.
