Spring Showcase Set For April 2
March 21, 2011
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - April 2 is a day UNLV fans will want to mark on their calendars.
The UNLV football program will end its training sessions by holding the Rebel Spring Showcase on Saturday, April 2 at 10 a.m. at Rebel Park on the UNLV Campus. The event, which is sponsored by Findlay Toyota, has moved back to campus in head coach Bobby Hauck's second year and is free and open to the public.
However, this year's event will include much more than a scrimmage.
"Quite simply, this will be a fun celebration of Rebel Athletics and our fans," said UNLV Athletics Director Jim Livengood.
Adjacent to Rebel Park in UNLV's North Gym, UNLV Athletics will hold a special inventory clearance sale for just the second time ever. Brands available include Nike, Russell and Adidas for official men's and women's team apparel such as game uniforms, jerseys, warm-ups, coaching shirts and athletic shoes as well as other memorabilia. The unique sale will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cash and major credit cards will be accepted and all proceeds benefit the UNLV Athletics Department.
Back on the practice fields, this year's revamped football event will feature a free youth football clinic - conducted by UNLV coaches and players - following the team's scrimmage (which is scheduled to end at approximately 11:30 a.m.). The clinic will be open to kids ages 6-12 and will last approximately 30 minutes.
The Rebel Spring Showcase will also feature live interviews with coach Hauck from the field (before, during and after the scrimmage) as well as additional live interviews with players and others involved with UNLV football.
"We want this event to become something people in the community look forward to every year," said Hauck. "It's a great chance for our fans to come out and learn more about Rebel football as well as the student-athletes they are supporting. We are going to be one of the youngest teams in college football in 2011 so these are the players who will help change the face of UNLV football and we want our fans to get to know them better."
All fans will be invited to meet the players and get autographs immediately following the scrimmage. Festivities will also include activities for kids throughout the event and concession stands will be open.
New this year, fans in attendance will also be eligible to win prizes, including a grand prize of a Rebel Football Power Pack, featuring four season tickets to the 2011 Rebel season.
The entrance to Rebel Park is located between the Earl E. Wilson Baseball Stadium and Lied Athletic Complex, which are near the intersection of Paradise and Harmon. Free parking is available at the baseball stadium and Fertitta Tennis Complex. The North Gym is located adjacent to Rebel Park.
Season tickets for UNLV football are currently available and start as low as $75 this season to watch the Rebels play home games against such 2010 bowl teams as Boise State, Hawaii and San Diego State. Call (702) 739-FANS or visit UNLVtickets.com for more information.
