Newly Designed Football Uniforms Unveiled

Photo Gallery From The UNLV Nike Uniform Photo Shoot

June 19, 2008

LAS VEGAS - Sporting newly designed uniforms, three UNLV football seniors put the team's fresh look on display for the first time at Thursday's photo shoot on campus.

With the local media invited along, team leaders Casey Flair (WR, Anchorage, Alaska), Frank "The Tank" Summers (RB, Oakland, CA) and Jacob Hales (DL, Las Vegas, NV), modeled the 2008 home jerseys and pants for photographs that will be used in the team's upcoming promotional materials.

The redesigned uniform and slightly altered helmet coincide with the department's new comprehensive contract that makes Nike the exclusive products supplier and sponsor of UNLV athletics.

"We are excited about our program's new deal with Nike and the changes that come with it," said UNLV head coach Mike Sanford. "I think our design is contemporary but also captures the traditional scarlet and gray UNLV school colors. They look great."

"Today was the first day that we saw them and we love them," Summers said between photo sessions. "Change is always good. They have a different cut to them that makes them more comfortable."

"There is a lot more movement in the arms for us big guys," Hales said. "Pooch (Director of Equipment Paul Pucciarelli) did a great job in making sure these fit right for us."

The home uniform consists of silver pants with a traditional UNLV arch near the waist opposite the famous Nike swoosh. The arch also is prominently displayed on each gray shoulder and a large "REBELS" is sewn into the red chest. Sewn-on player numbers are white with a slight black outline. Socks and shoes are black.

The road design, which has not yet arrived, will feature a white jersey with gray shoulders and white pants.

The black face-masked helmet remains largely the same except for an altered stripe down the middle.

"I like them," Flair said between television interviews. "It looks old-school but with a modern touch. We can't wait to get on the field with them."

The Rebels will open their 40th anniversary season of football by hosting Utah State on August 30. Kickoff is 7 p.m. PT. Season and single-game tickets are now on sale by calling (702) 739-FANS or logging on to
