LAS VEGAS - UNLV Football Reporting Day 2009 saw 101 players, old and new, scholarship and walk-on, come together for the first time as a group on Wednesday.
Preseason preparations are now officially underway as the newcomers were first to arrive at the Lied Athletic Complex's Hilton Auditorium. The veterans joined the newbies for a team meeting before the business of physicals and issuing of equipment took over.
Head coach Mike Sanford met with the team as well as television reporters covering the events.
"This is the most excited I have been in my career about a team," he said. "We had the best summer since we've been here as far as attitude and physical fitness. Now the next step is to have a great preseason camp. I can't wait to get going."
The newcomers will hit the field for the first time at Rebel Park on Thursday from 7:40-9:10 a.m. while the vets' initial appearance is scheduled for 6-8:05 p.m. The public is invited to attend practices before the team heads out of town to train in cooler temps starting on Tuesday.
