Nearly 500 kids were at Rebel Park for Monday's clinic.

Aug. 5, 2013

LAS VEGAS ( - Nearly 500 local kids took part in Monday's annual football clinic on the UNLV campus as part of NCAA Football's national youth initiative in partnership with the Las Vegas Bowl.

The last of 14 free clinics NCAA Football sponsored across the nation this summer, the three-hour event was led by the UNLV football coaching staff, including head coach Bobby Hauck, as well as dozens of returning Rebel players that are preparing for their own practices to begin tomorrow.

"This was the fifth year in a row that the Las Vegas Bowl has hosted and it's always a great opportunity for the game to give back to the community," said Tiffany Greco, manager of NCAA Football. "UNLV shows us every year that it is a great site for the clinic and we love working with Coach Hauck and his staff and student-athletes."

Ranging in age from 8-13, participants came from around the Las Vegas Valley and gathered at Bill "Wildcat" Morris Rebel Park. There they went through multiple stations on the Ernie Becker Sr. Football Fields as well as inside the Lied Athletic Complex where the program included a presentation by former Rebel offensive lineman and current University employee Tony Terrell.

NCAA Football's Youth Initiative strives to attract more youth participants to the game, provide them with additional motivation to pursue higher education opportunities, help them develop the necessary skills to be successful on and off the field, and help to establish a new base of lifelong NCAA Football fans.

The 2013 Las Vegas Bowl, featuring a Pac-12 team against the top selection from the Mountain West, will be played Saturday, Dec. 21, at 12:30 p.m. PT (3:30 p.m. ET) at Sam Boyd Stadium and televised nationally on ABC.
