Day Four Of Camp Rebel Complete
Aug. 12, 2011
CAMP REBEL (UNLVRebels.com) - With an off-campus date with two-a-days looming, the UNLV football team turned in a spirited three-hour practice Friday morning at Rebel Park.
Head coach Bobby Hauck reported that he and his staff were pleased with the first week of action in what is his second season in Las Vegas.
"I've enjoyed the first 3-4 days," Hauck said. "I love the enthusiasm and confidence the group has shown. We're starting to get a bit of an attitude out here, which is good."
Asked to name any differences between his first UNLV preseason camp and this one, Hauck said things are progressing more rapidly in Year Two.
"With the system already in place, we get to concentrate more on coaching this year. We also look better physically. We've obviouisly had a good summer in the weight room."
Saturday will bring the first day of full-pad action but Hauck said the real change was moving from helmets and shorts to the half-pads uniform that took place earlier this week.
On Sunday, the Rebels will load into busses and travel to their off-campus training site until returning August 25. You can still follow the team right here at UNLVRebels.com as we continue to post daily practice reports.
The 2011 season opens with a trip to 10th-ranked Wisconsin on Thursday, Sept. 1, while the home opener is Sept. 17 when Hawaii comes to Sam Boyd Stadium. Returning defensive back Eric Tuiloma out of Las Vegas' Desert Pines High School now sports a hyphenated last name: Tuiloma-Va'a. That gives UNLV four current players with hyphens: Liberty High School walk-on linebacker Spencer Hill-Hale, midyear JC signee defensive end Trent Allmang-Wilder and another Las Vegas product, Spring Valley HS defensive lineman Aveyon Jackson-Walker, who recently joined the program from Victor Valley College.
