All Hales Jacob

Aug. 13, 2008

REBEL CAMP 2008 - Las Vegas native Jacob Hales (Las Vegas HS) picked up where he left off winning three Black Jersey awards during spring practice when he earned the same honor for Wednesday's preseason two-a-day. The senior lineman continued to show he is a team leader with the top defensive performance on Tuesday.

"Jacob had a quarterback sack, another tackle for loss and made two huge stops on third downs," said head coach Mike Sanford. "Just like in the spring, he is playing hard and with a ton of energy."

Hales looks poised to make his final season his best. The 26-year-old started all 12 games in 2007 and made 36 tackles along with a career-high three sacks. Also a top student, Hales has already earned his bachelor's degree in university studies and is looking to take education classes in his last fall semester.

Joining him on the Black Jersey list was junior wide receiver Ryan Wolfe (Santa Clarita, CA/Hart HS), who also pulled the same honor on Sunday. The team's only consensus 2008 preseason first team All-Mountain West Conference pick has led an impressive receiving corps during this off-campus training sojourn.

"Ryan is going full speed and doing things right and making a lot of plays," Sanford said.

Wolfe, who after only two seasons is on track to shatter nearly all of UNLV's receiving records, already has 121 catches in just 24 games for 1,695 yards and seven touchdowns. The talented athlete also rushed for 103 yards on just 10 attempts last fall.

Former walk-on linebacker Rusty Worthen (Las Vegas/Palo Verde HS) was the runner-up for the defensive award while no other offensive players were nominated by the coaching staff.
