CAMP REBEL (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV football team suited up in full pads for the first time this preseason camp, enjoying a rare break from the August heat as rain found its way to Rebel Park.
“Camp is always a work in progress, but we were able to get out there today and strap the helmets on and go at it in full pads,” said second-year head coach Bobby Hauck.
Rain sprinkled as practice began and the players were able to enjoy much cooler temperatures at Rebel Park then the previous four days of camp. The Rebels closed out their final practice at Rebel Park before making the journey to an off-campus site for the next 11 days of camp.
Quarterback Caleb Herring has his receivers dialed in during both the seven on seven and team periods, finding tight end Kyle Watkins and wide out Marcus Sullivan on deep balls down the sidelines. Watkins is one of three returning tight ends expected to compete for playing time this year. He had eight catches for 110 yards a touchdown in 2010.
Kurt Davis stole the show during seven on seven with an amazing one-handed haul from Herring. Davis, running a slant inside stretched to bring in the ball, never breaking stride and rumbling down inside the five yard line.
