UNLV Adds Ohio State, Arkansas State To Schedule|
Aug. 14, 2014
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's football team signed on to make its first trip to play Ohio State and also inked a home-and-home series with Arkansas State, Director of Athletics Tina Kunzer-Murphy announced Thursday.
The Rebels will take on the Buckeyes in football for the first time when they travel to Columbus for the Sept. 23, 2017, meeting. OSU will be the fifth Big Ten Conference team to face UNLV on the gridiron (Wisconsin, Northwestern, Minnesota and Michigan in 2015 are the others).
UNLV will earn its biggest payout ever with a guarantee of $1.3 million. That bests the $1 million that the Rebels will get from their trip to Ann Arbor to play the Wolverines next season.
"We are looking at signing one guarantee game every couple of seasons and Ohio State is a great fit for 2017," said UNLV Director of Athletics Tina Kunzer-Murphy. "It will be an exciting trip for our team and fans for the Rebels to play at the famed Horseshoe."
UNLV and Arkansas State have met only once before as the Rebels downed the Red Wolves 28-23 on Oct. 9, 1995, in Las Vegas. UNLV will host the Sun Belt Conference team on Sept. 2, 2017, and will play in Jonesboro on Sept. 1, 2018.
UNLV is currently holding training camp in Ely, Nev., and opens its season on Friday, Aug. 29 at Arizona. The home opener is Saturday, Sept. 6 vs. Northern Colorado. Season tickets are on sale now starting at only $90 for all six home games. Three-game mini-plans are also on sale starting as low as $42.
