VIDEO/STORY: #CampRebel: Tight Ends Stepping Up In Camp

Aug. 15, 2017

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV football was back in full pads Tuesday morning at Rebel Park for the 12th practice of #CampRebel.

One of the position groups that has stood out through the first two weeks of camp are the tight ends, according to offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Barney Cotton. After losing former Rebel Andrew Price to graduation, the Rebels will rely on a pair of seniors and former junior college transfers in Trevor Kanteman and Tim Holt to carry the load, with reinforcements from walk on transfer Cody Scherff and redshirt freshman Giovanni Fauolo

"I think we've got a pretty good tight end group this year," said Cotton. "We lost some experience, but we have an experienced guy in Trevor and another experienced guy in Tim Holt coming back, so that should bode well for us. Plus, we're really excited about Cody Scherff and Gio Fauolo, the way they've gone into camp."

Cotton was particularly impressed with the quartet's performance, both through the air and in blocking schemes, in the team's first scrimmage of camp Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium.

"In our scrimmage the other night they all had catches," said Cotton. "We had one touchdown and probably had over 100 yards receiving out of those four guys, so they've been a big part of our passing game and they've really done a good job in the running game for us."

Kanteman and Holt combined for 205 yards on 14 receptions last season. Expect those numbers go up significantly in 2017.
