CAMP NOTES: A Saturday Get-Together

Aug 17, 2013

ELY ( - The Rebels held their first scrimmage of the fall on Saturday here at Broadbent Park.

The team had morning meetings to go through before enjoying hamburgers and chicken sandwiches for lunch.

After the scrimmage the Rebels dined on pork tenderloin, salmon, macaroni and cheese and scalloped potatoes for dinner. They also enjoyed cheesecake for dessert.

SATURDAY SCRIMMAGE: The Rebels had their first scrimmage in Ely on Saturday that lasted just over two hours. The defense looked strong, while the offense was efficient.

The first play of the scrimmage saw sophomore defensive end knock down Nick Sherry's pass. The defensive line would break up at least three pass attempts during the scrimmage.

"Our defense looked good today," head coach Bobby Hauck said. "Our offense is solid right now so it was nice to see our defense make some good plays."

The younger players stole the show at the scrimmage, as they got the majority of the playing time.

"Our older guys don't need too many live reps and they didn't get many," Hauck said. "We did a lot in the spring and we just wanted to do a couple of live tackles. It is important for our younger guys to get more reps in right now."

The play of the day was when defensive end Jordan Sparkman forced a fumble that Trent Langham recovered. Langham would have scored, but the play was blown dead.

Henri Jussila led the offensive attack as he finished with 28 rushing yards on four attempts with a score. Sieua Vaesau led the team on defense with four tackles and two sacks. Nolan Kohorst had a successful day as well, as he finished 4-for-4 on field goal attempts. Full statistics are below.
