VIDEO/STORY: #CampRebel Report: New Faces at Linebacker

Aug. 18, 2017

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV football returned to the field Friday morning for practice No. 15 of #CampRebel wearing half pads for the two-and-a-half hour session.

Heading into camp, one of the positions that had the most uncertainty was at linebacker. The Rebels lost all three starters to graduation, including Tau Lotulelei, who finished out his eligibility with a career year. Through the first two weeks, defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Kent Baer has seen enough to solidify the new starters.

"It's pretty much already been decided from last spring through the first couple weeks of camp" said Baer. "Gabe McCoy is going to be the SAM and we've got some good quality backups in that spot. Brian Keyes is going to be the starter at MIKE, but a couple of the guys behind him are really pushing - Jacob Rominger and Farrell Hester the freshman. Bailey Laolagi is going to be the starter at WILL, but Kyler (O'Halloran) is doing a great job and so is (Aaron) Borg, so we've got some balance, but so far that's how it's going to be."

As for what he'd like to see from them for the remainder of camp, improvement is key."We've got a lot of stuff to get better at fundamentally," said Baer. "Lots of fundamentals and communication, but that's always a part of it."
