ELY, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) - A day after holding its first of two preseason scrimmages, the UNLV football team returned to the field on Sunday with a half-padded practice at Broadbent Park.

The morning was clear and sunny, but by the time practice had started, rain began to fall again on the Rebels. The light drizzle did not slow down the action, however, as they worked through it.

Following the afternoon session, players were treated to a dinner of salmon, pork loin, scalloped potatoes, macaroni and cheese and a vegetable dish.

CATCHING UP WITH THE RECEIVERS

Coming into this season, the Rebels have to replace one of the most prolific receivers in UNLV history.

Despite being inexperienced, this receiving corps is full of hard working guys that look to help replace the program's all-time TD catch king Phillip Payne.

"What I have seen is a bunch of inexperienced guys that are working hard," wide receiver coach Cedric Cormier said. "They are really giving me everything they got."

Vying for position will be sophomore Devante Davis, senior Trey Mays, sophomore Marcus Sullivan and sophomore Taylor Spencer. Junior transfer Maika Mataele also looks to make an impact.

This season UNLV plans on using the tight ends more in the passing game. Freshman Jake Phillips is one of the leaders coming into the season.

"We have 11 days until we play and we need every day to get better everyday," Cormier said.
