UNLV – Washington State Post Game Quotes

UNLV Head Coach Bobby Hauck opening statement…

“First congratulations to Washington State coming in here and getting us. I think they probably played their best game of the year at least that would be my assessment. They did a nice job. They took advantage of some things. I was disappointed in our coverage in the first half; we have got to get that fixed. But we were down by double digits three times and found our way back into it. We came down to the last drive again and came up short. We are at 0-3, so obviously we are bitterly disappointed about that.”

On missed opportunities…

“We did have some chances. We went for it on fourth down in the fourth quarter, had we have been down 14 we would have kicked those field goals, but down 15, even if we get them both, it is still a two score game. We needed to go for those fourth downs. The replay call put us in a fourth and three-and-a-half or whatever instead of a first down. That was huge.”

On responding after a tough loss last week…

“I love our guys. I think we have a lot of character and investment in our locker room. I like our guys. I think we have a chance to be a decent football team. I don’t think we are a good time right now, but I also don’t think we are a bad team. I think we are an average football team that has come up on the short end of the ledger three times by slim, slim margins.”

On backup quarterback Caleb Herring playing wide receiver…

“Those of you that were with us in Ely got a preview of that and it looked decent up there. Caleb is a good player and teammate. He is smart enough to stay tuned into the quarterback stuff and he knows the wide receiver stuff. That gave us a little juice. He had a nice game out there when he got in.

On the progress of the team from last year to this year…

“Washington State has good players. I like their defensive players and wide receivers. The beat the dog out of us up there last year. When that happens you wonder how college kids respond. I think our guys were very determined to win this game tonight. I’m sick we are 0-3, but a triple overtime game, a last second field goal game and this one tonight which was somewhat back and forth shows we are making progress.
