Battle For Cannon To Be Televised In Southern Nevada
Sept. 22, 2011
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The October 8 football game between UNLV and Nevada, Reno will be televised live in Southern Nevada on Cox Cable Channel 96, UNLV Athletics and IMG College announced Thursday.
The annual Battle for the Fremont Cannon will kick off at 4 p.m. PT at Mackay Stadium in Reno.
The game will be shown using an independent production company. Former Rebel football radio announcer and current Pittsburgh Pirates play-by-play man Tim Neverett will call the action along with 10-year NFL veteran linebacker Brant Boyer serving as analyst.
This year's game will be the last one played by the schools as non-conference rivals as the Wolf Pack join the Rebels in the Mountain West in 2012. The game was also the final one on UNLV's schedule this fall that was not already selected for television.
"Since the Wolf Pack's television rights-holders chose to not pick up the game, we jumped at the chance to bring it back for our fans in Southern Nevada," said UNLV Athletics Director Jim Livengood. "We certainly want to thank Wolf Pack AD Cary Groth for her help in getting the rights clearance for us to show the game down here."
UNLV, which upset Hawaii last weekend, looks to even its record at 2-2 this week when it hosts Southern Utah on Saturday at the special time of 6 p.m. PT. It will be Family and Friends Night with Rebel Football that includes a 2-for-1 ticket special. There will also be a pregame kids festival outside of the stadium from 3-5:30 pm, including an appearance by the Runnin' Rebel basketball team signing autographs.
For tickets, log on to www.unlvtickets.com or call (702) 739-FANS (3267).
