WEEK SIX EDITION: The Louisiana Tech Game
A generation ago, baseball player Jimmy Wynn was nicknamed "The Toy Cannon" due to the outstanding power he possessed despite his small size. Such a moniker might also be attached to Rebel running back Bradley Randle who, beyond his playing talent, is refreshing among young athletes in that he clearly understands the importance of making the most of every play because everyone's career carries with it an expiration date ... If there's one thing that's clear following last Saturday's game, it's that Utah State figures to be a considerable force that few conference members should look forward to tangling with when they join the Mountain West effective with the 2013-2014 academic year. That move, along with the addition of San Jose State, will bring the total of football-playing conference members to 10 ... UNLV was only down by seven points entering the fourth quarter and cut down on their overall number of mistakes, but some of the five penalties they did commit were particularly untimely ... Strong attendance at Bobby Hauck's weekly radio show at Born and Raised is yet another example of the unwavering support and spirit of the Rebel faithful ... UNLV's defense is allowing ten fewer points per game than last season ... Redshirt freshman defensive back Fred Wilson is a thoughtful, engaging young man with a good sense of humor ... If there's such a thing as a fast-break offense in football, Louisiana Tech has it. Not only are the Bulldogs fifth in the nation by averaging more than 54 points a game, but their longest drive this season in terms of time is 2 minutes, 36 seconds.
