Barnhill's TD Catch Up For GEICO Play Of The Year
Oct. 16, 2012
CHICAGO - UNLV sophomore tight end Taylor Barnhill's long touchdown reception in triple coverage vs. Louisiana Tech on October 6 is nominated for the GEICO Play of the Year, Intersport announced.
Each week, fans vote for the GEICO Play of the Year and the winner will be announced on GEICO Best of College Football 2012 on CBS Nov. 23 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Each week for eight weeks, four incredible college football plays will be nominated as the Play of the Year on the GEICO Best of College Football Facebook page (facebook.com/bestofcollegefootball). The eight weekly winners will then faceoff in a week of finals voting from November 4 through 11 to determine the 2012 GEICO Play of the Year.
In the first quarter, the Rebels trailed host Louisiana Tech 3-0. Quarterback Nick Sherry unloaded from the La Tech 33-yard line looking for Barnhill. Barnhill was surrounded by three Bulldogs, but the ball was placed in the perfect spot and Barnhill's supreme concentration allowed him to make the outstanding grab. Unfortunately it was not enough, as La Tech pulled away late to get the win.
Barnhill's touchdown catch in triple coverage is competing against three other plays from week six, a back-of-the-end zone snag by Arkansas' Javontee Herndon, a diving touchdown grab by Kansas State's Tyler Locket and an interception TD return by Iowa State's David Irving.
