Rebels To Get Northern Exposure|
Oct. 16, 2013
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV football has filled out the non-conference portion of its schedule for both the 2014 and 2015 seasons by adding games vs. Northern Illinois and Northern Colorado, Interim Athletics Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy announced Wednesday.
The Rebels inked a home-and-home series with NIU of the Mid-American Conference. The Huskies played in the 2013 Orange Bowl as part of the BCS and are currently ranked No. 23 in both major polls. The school will make its second appearance at Sam Boyd Stadium but first since 1987 when it faces UNLV on Sept. 13, 2014.
The Rebels will return the game to open the 2015 season on Sept. 5 in what will be their first trip to DeKalb since 1995. NIU leads the all-time series 3-0.
Also, UNLV will host Big Sky Conference member Northern Colorado on Sept. 20, 2014. It will mark only the second meeting between the programs as the Bears came to town on Sept. 6, 1979, for a game that the Rebels won 35-31.
Wednesday's additions will give UNLV six home games both seasons, including two non-conference matchups.
The Rebels, who are riding a four-game winning streak, travel to No. 17/19 Fresno State on Saturday for the first time since 1997. UNLV's next home game is Homecoming vs. San Jose State on Nov. 2. Tickets are available by calling (702) 739-FANS (3267) or visiting www.unlvtickets.com.
