UNLV-Cal Announce Four-Game Football Series|
Nov. 1, 2017
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV football team will play Pac-12 Conference member California four times over the next decade, Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois announced Wednesday.
The two programs have never met in football but will start a series that features two games played in Las Vegas and two in Berkeley.
The Golden Bears will travel here Aug. 29, 2020, and the Rebels will make their first trip to Berkeley Sept. 17, 2022.
After a two-year break UNLV will open its 2025 season at Cal August 30 and then host the Bears Sept. 5, 2026.
“This is a series we have been working on since I arrived and is beneficial for both programs,” said Reed-Francois. “Playing a Pac-12 institution such as California upgrades our non-conference schedule for our fans and also benefits our program’s recruiting efforts in the area. These are the types of games that impact our city and the fact that UNLV and California have never met before makes it even more anticipated.”
Cal will become the ninth Pac-12 member to face UNLV. The Rebels will open next season by visiting USC Sept. 1, 2018, and a home-and-home with Arizona State is already on the books for 2020 (Sept. 12 in Las Vegas) and 2021 (Sept. 11 in Tempe). Only Oregon State and Washington State have traveled more than once to Las Vegas as members of the conference to face UNLV.
The Rebels will be looking to win consecutive Mountain West games for the first time since 2013 when they host Hawai’i this Saturday in the Ninth Island Showdown. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. PT and tickets, which start at just $24, are available by calling (702) 739-FANS or visiting unlvtickets.com.
