UNLV Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Bobby Hauck

Opening Quote …

“Obviously any win for us is a great win. That was a great win for our team. Our guys did a great job and I’m proud of them for continuing to fight and improve. When you look at it, the other team may have had more reason to play; they had a chance to be bowl eligible. So congratulations to our guys and our assistant coaches.”

On how big of a win this is …

“Everyone is critical toward us and when we go into a game, like we did today, with a real legitimate chance to match up with someone, we need to win it. There have been times this year where we didn’t. For our guys to go out and finish and play four complete quarters, I’m just proud of them. It shows a lot of character. All the things we have been talking about for two and half years, you can kind of see it being a developed.”

On the being able to hit the quarterback early …

“It’s one of those offenses where he has the ball in his hands and is taking shots. That is there offense. Cole Gautsche is a tough guy, he got knocked out of last week’s game and played the all of this one. We know him because he came to our camp a year and a half ago and we really like him. We can appreciate his toughness and his competitiveness.”

On the defense …

“We have a revolving door a little bit, especially at the secondary, in terms of injuries. For our defense to come out and play really solid assignment football and not give up a big play all day is big. Those guys have played 10 games this season and have given up big plays in every game but they didn’t give one up today, so it’s good for our guys.”

On Devante Davis’s touchdown …

“Our offensive line did a good job of holding them back and we got one-on-one coverage on the outside. Devante is a great player and when we get the ball in his hands he can do great things. He made a great run and that pushed our offense over the top.”

On getting a lot of yards on a short throw …

“It was really a five yard pass, it should be all rushing yards for him. To have weapons out there like we do it is nice for a quarterback.”

On having two 100-yard rushers …

“They are a 1-2 punch. Credit also goes to our offensive line too, creating those big holes. We kind of put it together on offense. I made a couple mistakes with a couple bad throws. But otherwise our line did a good job protecting and opening up holes. Our running game was good and our passing game was good.”
