Booth Banter For Week 12|
Nov. 15, 2012
New UNLV Football play-by-play announcer Russ Langer shares his insights here at UNLVRebels.com each week during the 2012 season. Langer is a seven-time Nevada Sportscaster of the Year and recently completed his 13th season calling games for the Las Vegas 51s Triple-A team.
WEEK 12 EDITION:
The Wyoming Game
Tough sledding, in more ways than one, for the Rebels in Fort Collins. Of course, only the players know for certain the degree to which the snow, bitter chill, and overall frigid conditions affected their performance. However, it was clearly uncharacteristic for them to repeatedly turn the ball over and dig themselves into such a huge hole so early ... UNLV's top three performers in the CSU loss: Tim Cornett, who racked up yet another 100-yard effort and consistently held onto to the ball under tough conditions, John Lotulelei, who turned in another dozen tackles, and punter Chase Lansford, who cut loose with six good kicks averaging 45.7 yards ... Ram running back Donnell Alexander came up with as good of a game against the Rebs as any back has had all season, with more than six and a half yards per carry ... UNLV's squad has been ravaged pretty thoroughly by injuries, although the same could be said for many of their opponents at this stage of the year ... One of the best things about games at Sam Boyd Stadium is the consistently excellent job by public address announcer Dick Calvert, a true professional and first-rate gentleman ... Offensively, the Wyoming Cowboys are an impressive combination of sharpshooters and gunslingers---and yes, the pun is intended. With the Scarlet and Gray back at home and completely thawed out, this could easily be one of the higher scoring games of the year ... Here's hoping that UNLV fans, recognizing that the next home game is 10 months away, will mobilize and make the scene this Saturday to support their hard-working team.
