Sam Boyd Stadium Listed Among Most Scenic By USA TODAY

Dec. 19, 2017

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Sam Boyd Stadium has been named one of the 10 most scenic in all of college football in USA TODAY's travel section.

The facility, opened in 1971 under the original name of Las Vegas Stadium, offers striking views of the surrounding desert primarily because of its horseshoe shape and one open end zone.

The article's author, Larry Bleiberg, provided commentary about the list from ESPN announcer Adam Amin, who called the Rebels' home game vs. BYU this fall.

Sam Boyd Stadium's location and shape help show off the beauty of the Desert Southwest.

The USA TODAY story said this about Sam Boyd Stadium: "A city best known for neon glitz isn’t the first that comes to mind for scenic beauty. But Amin remembers the arena glowing at sunset with desert light. “It set perfectly over the end zone and made a really nice picture.”
