Rebel Football Welcomes 13 Early Signees|
Dec. 20, 2017
"We're excited about this early signing day," said Sanchez. "We've got a good group coming in and we've signed half of the class at this point. We'll obviously have some work to do when we come back in January to get ready to close it out in February but it's nice to get a good portion of the group in the boat. This is our first class of 25 and will push UNLV over 80 scholarships for the first time in many years here."
The early list is made up of nine high school players, three junior-college transfers and one transfer from the Pac-12 Conference. UNLV, which is allowed to sign 25 new players, will announce the remainder of its class during the traditional signing day February 7.
No less than seven of the nine high school signees on the list earned at least one three-star ranking from either Rivals, 247Sports or ESPN.
The early class is evenly split with six players on each side of the ball and one listed as an Athlete. The full breakdown is as follows: 4 DB, 2 DL, 2 QB, 2 OL, 1 WR, 1 RB and 1 ATH.
"With losing two seniors, quarterback depth was a big issue on offense so we brought in a record-setting local guy and a guy who was originally a four-star recruit out of high school who was at Cal and then junior college and is now with us. That brings us to four scholarship players at that position, which is what we needed."
The early group consists of student-athletes whose hometowns are spread among six states: five from California, two each from Nevada, Arizona and Texas, and one each hail from Hawai'i and Maryland. Two of the signees are products of the same high school program in Chandler, Arizona.
"The early part of this class has primarily come from our traditional recruiting areas -- guys out of California, kids out of Houston again, guys from Arizona and of course, locally. It feels good to get some guys signed who have been committed since summer and now we can focus on the last 12 players for February."
Fans can place $50 deposits on new season tickets for the 2018 UNLV football season at the website UNLVtickets.com. Season-ticket pricing will be determined in January followed by the renewals process. Deposit-holders will be contacted by UNLV in mid-January for seat selection.
