Just Over Par

TUCSON, Ariz. - The UNLV men's golf team shot a nine-over par 297 in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament on Sunday and sits in sixth place.

The Rebels trail Texas by just eight strokes as none of the 14 teams broke par at the par-72, 7,094-yard Tucson National Golf Course.

The Longhorns' Jason Hartwick was the first-round leader, carding a five-under par 67.

The closes Rebels to Hartwick were Brien Davis and Ryan Keeney, who fired a one-over-par 73 in his collegiate debut. The duo is tied for 11th overall.

A 75 from sophomore Ryan Moore and a 76 from sophomore JC Deacon rounded out the Rebels' team scoring. Travis Whisman's 77 was discarded.

Second-round play of the National Invitation Tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. MST on Monday.
