TEMPE, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team shot an opening-round 12-over-par 296 and a second-round 2-under 282 on Saturday at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, which is being played at ASU's Karsten Golf Course (par 71, 7,057 yards).

USC is the team leader at 10-under 558 after 36 holes. San Diego State is in second place, none shots back at 1-under. Florida State and Pepperdine are both tied for third at 5-over, while Colorado State rounds out the top five at 6-over. Host Arizona State is sixth at 8-over, and UNLV is in a three-way tie for seventh at 10-over with Northwestern and Cal State Northridge. The tournament features 13 teams and 75 individuals.

Cal State Northridge's Nick Delio shot 1-over 72 during the first round, but followed up with a 6-under 65 in the second round for a one-shot lead at 5-under 137. USC's Steve Lim is second at 4-under, followed by four golfers at 3-under. UNLV junior Derek Ernst and sophomore Kevin Penner lead the Rebels and are in a tie for 15th individually at even-par 142. Ernst shot 74-68 on the day, while Penner went 72-70. Other Rebel individuals: freshman Blake Biddle is tied for 37th at 5-over 147 after a 75 and 72, sophomore Arthur Kim is tied for 45th at 6-over 148 after a 75 and 73, and junior Colby Smith is tied for 49th at 7-over 149 after a 77 and 72.
