TUCSON, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 7 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 2-under-par 282 on Sunday moving up two spots in the standings to finish in third-place tie at the 2012 Mountain West Men's Golf Championship, which was played at the Catalina Course at OMNI Tucson National Resort (par 71, 7,144 yards).

The Rebels finished the 54-hole tournament at 1-under 851. San Diego State shot a final-round 2-over 286 to win the event by five shots at 8-under 844. TCU finished second at 3-under, while UNLV and New Mexico tied for third, seven shots back of SDSU. Colorado State rounded out the top five at 1-over, 18 shots ahead of sixth-place Boise State. All eight MW schools were represented in the field, which was also made up of 40 individuals.

TCU's Johan de Beer shot a final-round 5-under 66 to capture medalist honors at 9-under 204, two shots ahead of CSU's Zahkai Brown and TCU's Julien Brun, who both tied for second at 7-under 206.

UNLV senior Derek Ernst led the Rebels with a tie for ninth at 1-under 212 after a final-round 2-over 73. Junior Kevin Penneralso finished in the top 15 as he ended up in 13th place at 1-over 214 after a final-round 2-under 69.

Other Rebel scores: freshman Carl Jonson tied for 17th at 4-over 217 after a final-round 5-over 76, sophomore Blake Biddle tied for 22nd at 6-over 219 after a final-round 4-under 67, and freshman Kurt Kitayamaalso tied for 22nd after a final-round 2-over 73.

The field for the NCAA Regionals will be revealed in the evening on Monday, May 7, and the 2011-12 All-MW Team will be announced on Thursday, May 10.
