Rebels Drop To 10th At NCAA Regional|

GREENSBORO, N.C. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 9 UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 16-over-par 304 on Friday, dropping to 10th place heading into the final round at the 2012 NCAA East Regional, which is being played at Grandover Resort's East Course (par 72, 7,271) yards.
Liberty shot 5-over 293 during the second round, maintaining its spot as the team leader at even-par 576 after 36 holes. SMU is second at 6-over, followed by Florida in third at 10-over, while Auburn and Lamar are both tied for fourth at 12-over. Texas Tech is sixth at 13-over, Tulsa is seventh at 14-over, Indiana is eighth at 15-over, Duke is ninth at 16-over and the Rebels round out the top 10 at 21-over 597.
SMU's Matt Schovee shot a second-round 2-under 70 to remain the individual leader at 7-under 137. Liberty's Robert Karlsson was 3-under on Friday and is in second place at 5-under for the tournament. There is a two-way tie for third at 3-under.
UNLV sophomore Blake Biddleleads all Rebel players and is in a two-way for fifth place, six shots off the lead at 1-under 143. He had two birdies, a bogey and a double bogey for a 1-over 73 on Friday.
Other Rebel players: freshman Carl Jonson is tied for 33rd at 6-over 150 after a second-round 5-over 77, junior Kevin Penner is tied for 41st at 7-over 151 after a second-round 4-over 76, senior Derek Ernst is tied for 48th at 9-over 153 after a second-round 6-over 78, and freshman Kurt Kitayamais 72nd at 19-over 163 after a second-round 9-over 81.
There are a total of six 54-hole regional tournaments. The NCAA East Regional consists of 14 teams and 75 individuals. The low five teams and low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championship finals, which will be played at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., May 29 - June 3.
This year marks UNLV's 24th straight appearance in a NCAA Regional, which is the NCAA record for most consecutive appearances.
The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Saturday. UNLV is slated to begin the final round off the No. 10 hole with tee times scheduled every 10 minutes from 8:20-9:00 a.m. ET. Live stats are available courtesy of Golfstat through a link on UNLVRebels.com.
