Rebels Finish Eighth At NCAA Regional|

GREENSBORO, N.C. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 9 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 3-over-par 291 on Saturday and finished in eighth place at the 2012 NCAA East Regional, which was played at Grandover Resort's East Course (par 72, 7,271) yards.
Liberty shot 4-over 292 during the final round to win the team title at 4-over 868. Florida was second at 7-over, followed by Auburn at 10-over, Lamar at 13-over and Tulsa rounded out the top five at 14-over. UNLV finished 10 shots behind fifth place at 24-over 888.
Campbell's Vaita Guillaume, Liberty's Robert Karlsson and SMU's Matt Schovee all tied for first at 3-under 213. Guillaume defeated Schovee in a one-hole sudden-death playoff to claim the individual spot for the NCAA Championship. Guillaume carded a par on the par-4 10th hole and Schovee recorded a bogey. Karlsson was not involved in the playoff, as Liberty advanced as a team to the championship finals.
UNLV sophomore Blake Biddleled the Rebels with a tie for seventh at 1-over 217. He shot 2-over 74 during the final round.
Other Rebel players: junior Kevin Penner tied for 23rd at 6-over 222 after a final-round 1-under 71, freshman Carl Jonson tied for 28th at 8-over 224 after a final-round 2-over 74, senior Derek Ernst tied for 35th at 9-over 225 after a final-round even-par 72, and freshman Kurt Kitayamatied for 69th at 22-over 238 after a final-round 3-over 75.
There were a total of six 54-hole regional tournaments. The NCAA East Regional consisted of 14 teams and 75 individuals. The low five teams and low individual not on those teams from each regional advanced to the NCAA Championship finals, which will be played at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., May 29 - June 3.
This year marked UNLV's 24th straight appearance in a NCAA Regional, which is the NCAA record for most consecutive appearances.
