Rebels Tied For Third After First Day In Georgia

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men’s golf team shot an opening-round 6-under-par 282 Friday at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate, which is being played at the club’s Lakeside Course (par 72, 7,017 yards). 

The Rebels are in a four-way tie for third, five shots behind team-leading Oklahoma State (-11). Individually, there is a three-way tie for first between Texas’ Doug Ghim, Oklahoma State’s Matthew Wolff and Georgia Tech’s Chris Petefish – all at 6-under 66.

REBEL OF THE DAY: Freshman Jack Trent shot a 4-under 68 and is in a tie for sixth, individually, two shots off the lead.

STAT OF THE DAY: Trent’s round consisted of five birdies and a bogey. UNLV senior Shintaro Ban, who is tied for 22nd along with junior Harry Hall (both at 2-under), had four birdies and an eagle during the first round.

REBEL NOTES: 
This is the final tournament of UNLV’s fall season.
The 15-team field has five of the nation’s top-10 teams, eight of the top 25 and 13 of the top 50.
UNLV did not compete in this tournament last year.
The event was previously known as the United States Collegiate Championship.
Ban is coming off his second career individual title as he tied for first at the Jerry Pate in Alabama.
Last season, UNLV won the Mountain West Championship, captured an NCAA Regional title and advanced to the ‘Elite Eight’ at the NCAA Championship. 
UNLV has an active NCAA record of 29 consecutive regional appearances.
This season marks the 31st at UNLV for Hall of Fame head coach Dwaine Knight.
