Rebels Tied For Seventh After Second Round In Georgia

ALPHARETTA, Ga. ( - The UNLV men’s golf team shot a second-round 4-under-par 284 Saturday at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate, which is being played at the club’s Lakeside Course (par 72, 7,017 yards). 

The Rebels are in a three-way tie for seventh, 13 shots behind team-leading Wake Forest (-23). The Demon Deacons shot a tournament-low 17-under 271 during the second round.

Individually, Duke’s Alex Smalley leads by a shot at 12-under 132 after a second-round 7-under 65. Texas’ Doug Ghim is second at 11-under, while Wake Forest’s Marco Steyn, who also shot 7-under Saturday, is third at 10-under.

REBELS OF THE DAY: Senior Shintaro Ban and junior Harry Hall each shot 2-under 70 during the second round and lead the Rebels in a tie for 17th at 4-under 140 after 36 holes.

STAT OF THE DAY: Hall recorded six birdies during the second round, while Ban and sophomore Justin Kim each had five.

This is the final tournament of UNLV’s fall season.
The 15-team field has five of the nation’s top-10 teams, eight of the top 25 and 13 of the top 50.
UNLV did not compete in this tournament last year.
The event was previously known as the United States Collegiate Championship.
Ban is coming off his second career individual title as he tied for first at the Jerry Pate in Alabama.
Last season, UNLV won the Mountain West Championship, captured an NCAA Regional title and advanced to the ‘Elite Eight’ at the NCAA Championship. 
UNLV has an active NCAA record of 29 consecutive regional appearances.
This season marks the 31st at UNLV for Hall of Fame head coach Dwaine Knight.
