LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Freshman Danny Musovski of Las Vegas came off the bench late in the first half to score the lone goal of the game, which gave the UNLV men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over California Baptist in an exhibition contest on Saturday night in front of 300 fans at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

With the game scoreless through the majority of the first half, Musovski entered the game at forward around the 35th minute and instantly made an impact, nearly sending in a shot from 10 yards out that was just outside the post. He made sure his next attempt was on the mark, as he collected a pass from Kyle Mellies, drove down the left side into the box, eluded two defenders before shooting cross cage from 10 yards out. His shot found the back of the net, putting UNLV ahead 1-0 in the 44th minute. He nearly connected again on a header before the end of the half.

"It's always great for us to get a preseason game under our belt, to see where our fitness level is, and Cal Baptist gave us a good game tonight," said UNLV head coach Rich Ryerson. "We had a great goal, we are expecting great things from Danny this year. I felt we were pretty solid overall, and we were able to learn a few things we'll need to improve on for when we start the regular season."

UNLV finished the half with a 6-2 edge on shots, and it was 7-3 in the second half for a 13-5 overall edge. Salvador Bernal pushed the Rebels' offense in the second stanza, and finished with three shots while he had one of the Rebels' four attempts on goal. Carlos Lara also had a shot on goal, and two total shot attempts.

Though the Rebels only posted one goal, they created strong scoring chances consistently throughout the contest. UNLV's defensive effort was strong as well, allowing only a total of five shots on goal, while Rebel goalkeeper Ryan Harding came up with three saves, including a couple on point blank shots, to earn the shutout.

The regular season opener for the Rebels will come on Friday, Aug. 29, when UNLV takes on Western Illinois at 2:30 pm in the first game of the Hotels At Grand Prairie Classic, hosted by Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.
