SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Junior Alex Hernandez (Indio, Calif.) broke a scoreless match in the 67th minute to lead the UNLV men's soccer team to a 2-1 conference opening victory over San Diego State Friday night at the SDSU Sports Deck.

Hernandez's goal came off a shot just outside the penalty box after a through ball from senior Kelly Frederick (St. John's, Antigua). Frederick later added an insurance goal in the 79th minute with the assist from sophomore Brendon Bain (Beaverton, Ore.).

With two minutes remaining in regulation, the Aztecs tried to make a comeback on a goal by Ryan Curtis, but it would not be enough to even the score.
