Rebels Fall At New Mexico|

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's soccer team ran into a New Mexico team looking to make a statement on Friday night, as the 14th-ranked Lobos ran out to an 11-0 victory in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action from the UNM Soccer Complex. The Rebels saw their win streak snapped at two, dropping to 5-10-1, 3-3 in league play, while UNM improved to 11-3, 4-2 in the MPSF.
New Mexico had suffered two upset losses in the last two weeks, and came out determined to not allow a third, scoring five goals in the first 15 minutes of the game. The Lobos added a sixth in the 40th minute, and went into halftime leading 6-0. The second half wasn't any better for UNLV, as Devon Sandoval scored twice in the first 10 minutes after halftime to complete a hat trick. UNM would tack on three more scores, and in all nine different players scored at least one goal on the night.
UNLV was outshot 30-8 for the game, with all eight shots coming in the second half. Joe Vitale and Richard Garness each played one half in goal for UNLV. The Lobos also used two goalkeepers, with Victor Rodriguez and Patrick Poblete combining for a shutout.
The Rebels remain in the Southwest for their next game, at Houston Baptist on Sunday with an 11 am start.
