UNLV MEN'S SOCCER

UNLV's Danny Musovski scored his 13th and 14th goals of the season Saturday night, leading the Rebels to a convincing 4-1 victory at Grand Canyon, spoiling the Antelopes' Senior night in the regular season finale for both teams. By becoming the first WAC team to claim a win on GCU's home field this season, UNLV improved to 10-9 overall, and finished in a tie for second place in the WAC standings with a 7-3 mark.

Thanks to last week's home win over Seattle, UNLV holds the tiebreaker over the Redhawks, and will be the second seed in next week's WAC Tournament, hosted by the Rebels at Peter Johann Memorial Field on Nov. 8-12. The first round will be held on Nov. 8, and the Rebels will again play the Antelopes, taking on the seventh-seeded GCU squad in the day's final game at 7 pm.

THE TURNING POINT: GCU had cut a 2-0 lead to just one goal after Niki Jackson scored in the 56th minute for the home team. Nine minutes later, GCU defender Brandon Johnson would pick up his second yellow card of the game, resulting in a red card and leaving the Antelopes shorthanded the rest of the way. UNLV took advantage by posting a pair of goals in the 76th and 87th minutes to claim the three-goal victory.

REBEL OF THE GAME: Musovski, the leading scorer in the WAC, scored the day's first goal, in the 23rd minute, for a 1-0 Rebel lead. After GCU closed within one, he headed in a ball in the box for another goal, giving him four points for the game.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV goalkeeper Enrique Adame faced five shots on goal and came up with four saves.

QUOTABLE:
"Very excited about the strong finish we had in our conference. The boys battled today on the road, it was GCU's senior night, they had a lot to play for, and now we have an opportunity to see them again on Wednesday. We just have to make sure that we don't take them lightly after tonight's results."
"Danny proved again why he's the best forward in the conference with his two goals when we needed him. They played very tough against him tonight and he was still able to come out with the ball. Timo (Mehlich) had a great goal, he was able to create some scoring chances, and we were also able to get Marquis (Pitt) in on the scoring as well. It's going to take the full squad to get us through the conference tournament but we have to get through Wednesday first."
- UNLV Head Coach Rich Ryerson

REBEL NOTES:
* Musovski's 14 goals on the year ties for the ninth most in a season in team history. He also posted 14 goals during his sophomore season. It also currently ranks him sixth in the nation.
* Timo Mehlich scored the game-winner in the 54th minute, marking his third straight contest with a goal. He also assisted on the day's first goal, by Musovski.
* Marquis Pitt got in the scoring with the night's final goal in the 87th minute. He assisted on Musovski's second score as well.
