UNLV Finishes Season with 3-1 Loss to Tulsa
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - On a day meant to honor UNLV's graduating seniors, there was little to celebrate. UNLV (5-11-2, 2-5-1 WAC) finished their season with a loss to Tulsa (12-7-0, 5-3 WAC), who clinches a berth in the WAC Soccer Tournament to be held next weekend at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
Tulsa took a lead at the 16:40 mark when Donivan Bradshaw scored an unassisted goal after freshman keeper Todd Abdalla misplayed the ball. Although the majority of the first half was played on UNLV's side of the field, the Rebels dodged some bullets and went into halftime down just 0-1.
In the second half, the Rebels evened the score off a Daniel Schloss goal at 48:18. The tie was short-lived however, as Eric Dominguez took Bradshaw's assist for a goal in the 53rd minute. Tulsa added an insurance goal when Bradshaw scored his second score of the day on a breakaway goal with the keeper out of the box. Shortly after, the Golden Hurricane almost added to their lead, but a goal was called back on an offsides penalty. UNLV had their chances to score, with five shots on goal coming in the second half, including two with an open goal.
UNLV was eliminated last weekend from postseason play, however the WAC Soccer Tournament will be held on the campus of UNLV. Four teams, including Tulsa, will compete. The semifinals will take place Friday, November 14 at 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. The championship game, for the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, is scheduled for Sunday at noon.
